WAQF (Amendment) Bill 2025 passed in Rajya Sabha with 128 votes in favour
WAQF Amendment Bill - rebranded as UMEED ‘Unified Management Empowerment Efficiency and Development got passed in the Rajya Sabha - a day after it was passed in Lok Sabha after more than a 12 hour intense debate. This bill brings revisions to the WAQF Act in order to safeguard against issues of mismanagement, lack of transparency, and land disputes that have persisted over the years. The government claims - the WAQF Amendment Bill - now renamed to UMEED - will bring greater accountability and efficiency.
